Tips From The Tour

Hello everyone, here are some tips that Brian just sent us all the way from Mazatlan, keep checking back here as this "Tips from the Pro" section will be updated weekly/monthly with new golf tips from a number of Canadian Tour pro's that Brian selects to have on the site:

We have all had this happen. Your over a shot and that little voice in your head has something to say. Maybe something like, " you got this", or "man I'm feeling it", or sometimes it's more like, "this is for par and if I miss it I'll go to two over and I missed a putt of similar length two holes ago".

While playing golf or doing anything there is a constant internal dialog. When your saying things in your head on purpose it's called conscious and when things are popping into your on their own it's sub conscious.

For the most part we cannot control our sub conscious but we can train it. One of the ways to train it is through affirmations. Affirmations are a positive saying or phrase that you say or read over and over again to train your mind to help produce the things you want in your life.
Below are my affirmations that I use for my golf game.

Use these as a guide line and write your own. Then carry them with you and read as often as possible. I guarantee it will increase your confidence and lead to lower scores.

Playing in the Rain:

When your playing golf in the rain I prefer a wool or polyester sweater as opposed to a rain jacket. There is less restriction and it keeps you warm and comfortable. If it gets real bad and your grips are soaked I sure like a rain glove.

Greasy Grips:

I don't know abut you but I tend to the issue of greasy cheeseburger grips. Greasy grips can lead to a poor grip on the club which will lead to pressure adjustments and fighting of the hands.

Rule #1: Clean the Grips regularly with a wet towel and once in a while use a degreaser like orange clean or simple green and be sure to rinse after.

Trick #1: Try roughing up the surface of your grips with sandpaper. Older grip especially may need a little 80 Grit.

Trick #2: If you cleaned your grips, washed the sunscreen off your hands and your grip still feels like its been dipped in the deep fryer try wearing a rain glove. I find that the grip with a nice fitting rain glove very good on the greasiest of grips.

Trick #3: If it comes down to it one of my favorites is a little tree sap on the hands. Find a Evergreen tree like a Pine, Fir, Cedar etc and sap up your mitts. You will be amazed at the tackiness.
